Main Street Middletown to Host Business Consultant to Aid Main Street Businesses

Main Street Middletown is hosting a series of technical workshops with strategies and tips to help strengthen Main Street businesses, all part of an overall construction mitigation program designed to help Main Street businesses during the SHA road construction project along Main Street.

We are hosting the Kick-Off meeting on Tuesday, April 18, 6:30pm at Town Hall.

We are pleased to bring the expertise of J. Garrett Glover to Middletown.

J. Garrett Glover is an Operations and Management Consultant and a Media and Communications Content Producer and Marketing Creative Director specializing in retail, hospitality and digital media marketing and communications.  Garrett currently works with the Maryland Small Business Development Center at the University of Maryland as Retail Specialist and High Impact Consultant specializing in Retail, Restaurant, Communications, Media and Marketing.

As a retailer and restaurateur, Garrett has over 45-years experience in the retail and hospitality industry, a career highlighted by roles as Corporate Director of Employee Training and Development and Corporate Operations Manager for Washington DC’s venerable Clyde’s Restaurant Group.  As an Operations and Management Consultant, his clients include specialty retail and restaurant businesses, and government and economic development agencies. Currently, Garrett leads the SBDC’s disaster relief, recovery and business revitalization programs for Ellicott City’s Main Street small businesses.  In this capacity, Garrett created a tripartite public/private partnership to provide merchants in recovery with a transactional, e-commerce website for selling inventory online.

A writer and producer, Garrett has published How We Do Business, Clyde’s Primer for Beating The Odds In The Restaurant Business (Brick Tower Press, NY, NY) and has written and produced TV specials for the Food Network.  He has also published business white papers, service and management systems and training manuals, and feature articles including “Giving Main Street Restaurants a Fighting Chance” for Main Street Now magazine.

A media and communications specialist, Garrett serves as Writer, Creative Director and Content Producer creating and distributing digital media, Web, Mobile and Social Media design and content as well as digital branding and marketing programs for IT, entertainment and restaurant clients.  Garrett previously worked as Vice President of Product Development at Digital Pictures, San Mateo, CA, where he developed, produced and published award-winning video games.

A native Washingtonian, Garrett earned his B.A. from Georgetown University, an M.F.A. from The Catholic University of America, and a Ph.D. from New York University.  He has taught at Columbia University, George Washington University and The Corcoran College of Art.
