October in Middletown

It is easy to fall in love with Middletown any time of the year, but the Fall seems to wake the senses with the bright crisp days full of warm sunshine and cooler breezes.  The abundance of the harvest harkens the town back to its agricultural roots, when many of the businesses here were supportive of nearby farming – we had a small cannery back on North Church Street, and of course, the Creamery that was located on the west side of town where we have the lovely neighborhood called Creamery Row.  So, it is not surprising that the abundance of the fall harvest and its celebration stays with us today.

From the end of September to the end of October, Middletown is in high gear!  The Middletown Heritage Festival, kicks everything off, with a parade, vendors, music, and more.  We just celebrated the Heritage Festival’s 40th year! With the longevity of this event, it has gone from something to do to town-wide, multi-generational tradition.  It feels like an early Thanksgiving – a lot of people to see, talk to, visit with, reminisce about days gone-by, and who can resist fair food?

Almost immediately after Heritage Festival, the celebration continues with the 17th Annual Scarecrows March Down Main Street, a delightfully creative way to celebrate our agricultural roots with the most iconic symbol of a Scarecrow.  These scarecrows are anything but ordinary.  Year after year, Main Street is decorated by the most clever, crafty, creative, cute, artistic, and spooktacular scarecrows you will see!  Join us on October 19th to help vote for your favorites!  Speaking of the spooktacular, we cap off the Fall with a Halloween Parade for children to march down the street fully dressed in their costumes with their friends and family to end up at our Town Hall where they can pick up some extra treats!

But this is just in downtown Middletown – there are events galore at Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch and Summer’s Farm, both farms are full of the joys of the fall and Halloween season with hay rides, animals to see, pick your own pumpkins, and more, every weekend is something special.

Whether you are looking for a full day at the farm, or a stroll down our scarecrow decorated Main Street, you will definitely Fall in love with Middletown!
