2024 Middletown Year in Review
Middletown is an exceptional town, and we’ve experienced an exceptional year for Main Street Middletown, MD Inc.
Our year started with the completion of the exterior rehabilitation of the former Bussard’s Barbershop, and immediately we launched into several months of interior “finishing touches” which included backyard landscaping. The culmination of this long-term project was the grand opening in August, and shortly thereafter, recognition from the statewide organization of Preservation Maryland to our Main Street Manager as the historic preservation professional of the year.
We celebrated, welcomed, and commemorated the opening of Beans and Dreams, Nektario’s Place, The Turquoise Trailer, Dr. Phillips Family Vision Center, the Middletown branch of the Frederick County Library, Hearth and Home Mercantile, and The Witching Hour Spa. We celebrated the 40th anniversary of Middletown Sportsland, the 40th anniversary of the South Church Street Business Center (a former shoe factory), and the 20th anniversary of Brad Myer’s Edward Jones office.
We worked with business owners, teachers, home businesses, and other community leaders to bring the first Health and Wellness Expo to Middletown, following on the heels of this was Vintage Vehicles, Scarecrows March Down Main, and Christmas in the Valley. Like the rest the downtown, we flung open our doors during Heritage Festival and talked to over 200 visitors just that day!
The Welcome Center has welcomed many neighbors, but also people from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Texas, and even a travel writer from Canada!
Of course, none of this could be done without the support of many, many volunteers. Middletown, Maryland has a wealth of dedicated volunteers who make this community shine.
As many people do at the end of the year, a bit of reflection is helpful to catch your breath and think of the sum of all that has occurred in 2024. It also lets the mind expand to next year and wonder what will 2025 look like?
For Main Street Middletown, we are ready!
