February 2023

Hello February!

Hi friends!

Year after year, we try to get our annual calendar of events out in January. And no matter how hard we try, it just seems like it does not happen. I don’t think we are procrastinators, but maybe dreamers?

Main Street Middletown, MD Inc has been creating the Calendar of Events for the Town since at least 2011. We’ve had different styles, different information presented, but by and large, the events themselves are relatively the same, sprinkled each year with a few different ones to mark special commemorations, or just other new events to spark interest.

Group dynamics never fail – when the Main Street Board starts to review the calendar of events, we think of how great the last event was, we think about what we can do better, add to it, not worry so much about one aspect, but more of another, and most importantly,  these discussions often result with new ideas. What is also on all of our minds, too, is the perfect, idyllic days we can have in Middletown, with a mild breeze, a sunny, bright day with the entire town having fun on Main Street, moms relaxed, dads telling jokes, dogs wagging their tales, babies laughing, and grandparents looking adoringly at their grandchildren. Every business door is wide open with people streaming in and coming out with smiles, full bellies of delish food, and newly purchased items. That image burns into our minds, because we know those magical days and awesome events do occur here, on a regular basis. We think, sure, we can go to every single event, and enjoy it to its fullest, and we can create new events for every other month of the year and just never get tired.  Until we peek at the clock and realize we have been daydreaming for twenty minutes, and snap back to work.

Some years, those daydreaming sessions turn into real events, such as Coloring the Street. This event was envisioned by one of the Town’s maintenance crew who happened to share that thought with Main Street. This year, we are turning our Middletown obsession with ice cream into an ice cream trail with folks who eat at each place can win prizes. And already in the planning stages for 2024 is a new be-healthy related event.

Be on the look out for the 2023 Calendar of Events – whether it is sent directly in the mail, or picked up in and around town or at the nearby Frederick Visitor Center. It’s full of fun things to do throughout the year with all of your favorite traditions such as Scarecrows, Christmas in the Valley, and Heritage Festival, special events just for this year, such as the highly anticipated Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage, so you too, can make time to come downtown and see why we love our Middletown events!
