March 2023

MIDDLETOWN AND FREDERICK ANNIVERSARIES

Middletown marks its founding to 1767 when it was laid out into plots and the plat was recorded.  However, we also think about March as the month that the Town was officially incorporated in 1833.  This March, in 2023, we find ourselves at the esteemed age of 256 years old and Frederick County is celebrating its 275th anniversary.

Over these 256-plus years, Middletown has amassed quite a collection of buildings.  There’s so much beautiful architecture, representing so much of our history, from the log cabins that are found along Jefferson Street, and many hidden under stucco cladding on Main Street, Federal style buildings, eclectic styles of the Victorian age, classic Colonial Revivals, Beaux Arts, Craftsman, and even a few catalog homes ordered from Sears & Roebuck.

CELEBRATE MIDDLETOWN’S ANNIVERSARY WITH SOME GOOD EATS

While you’re in Middletown checking out all the cool history, stop in for some favorite food like the decadent and savory treats from Deb’s Artisan Bakehouse, the home-style meals from Dempsey’s, the fresh-fare and fantastic adult drinks served up at The Main Cup, and the new comfort food – take out from Asian Café.

A quick jaunt up Main Street finds the incredibly inviting front porch of Tapia’s on Main with its mouthwatering sandwiches, pizza, and dinners.  Nestled in the neighborhood on East Main, Tapia’s may be our best kept secret!

Add to this list Fratelli’s, Cinco De Mayo, Black Hog Barbeque, and Verona’s Pizza.  For a small town, we certainly do have a variety of places to help celebrate special occasions, or just brighten up any weekday with a meal out.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW!

And speaking of fun celebrations in Middletown, we were selected to be part of the esteemed Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage for their 86th annual tour of homes.

The Middletown tour will take place on Saturday, May 6th, 2023.

Tickets can be purchased at Town Hall, or click here to pay online. We think visitors to Middletown will be quite taken with our little town!

So, come on out to Middletown, and celebrate!
